I'm not going to go to all that trouble, VM's seem like kind of a pain.

VMs really aren't that bad. it's worth it. with just 1 gpu and and VM, i'm getting around 25k ppd. with 2 gpu, you'd get over 30kppd.

I've just tried it in bios without much luck.

oh. which motherboard do you have? i've had a little trouble with mine, i'm stuck at 3.7 ghz (still not bad).

This (http://www.overclockers.com/3-step-guide-overclock-core-i3-i5-i7/) guide might help you some

The ancient "rendering video..." progress bar you get to watch, which locks you out of every other function.

Annoyed the crap out of me... I edited a 1hr documentary slide show and it was a 20 minutes render on my (former) Macbook Pro i7 with 8 GB RAM.
I'm waiting patently for the iMac 2011 SB and will order the day they are available

I don't think that apple should be in the business of approving apps.

I think they should do their best to categorize them and create methods to protect certain age groups from accessing inappropriate apps.

But otherwise get out of the business of approving 'this' while denying 'that'.

Agreed. This should not be available to minors. That should be the only restriction.

It was my annual Black Friday "Buy a ton of video games" day today. Most of them on sale quite a lot, so it worked out nicely. I got 6 really awesome games for just over $100....

Nice! Don't forget to look out a window once in a while. ;)

Basically - All hardware has to come up with new drivers - I did not see anything about Plug-in support. And I see no reason why Apple will release boxed copies. But maybe they will to placate us all. FCX is what I wanted Apple to do. Trash the old and make something new and modern. Unfortunately the Original Programer of FC is no longer with Apple so the old code was unusable. But when you do that you have to re-build the feature set from scratch.

From what I am reading so far, the real benefit of 8 cores in the real world of a minority of applications being truly well threaded, is the ability to run 2-4 large complicated programs simultaneously, multiple instances of programs (some have talked about running 4 copies of handbrake), and multiple OS's simultaneously.

All those things also require vast amounts of memory as well, so a MacPro or X-serve is the only way to go now to addres 16GB+.

Apple has always had memory crippled computers on the low end. If they could do ONE thing in the coming 64 bit world, I would ask them to make the motherboards at least be able to address FUTURE RAM options as the cost always drops rapidly and the requirements always seem to be predominantly ram based.

Since the iPad does nothing useful this appeal to the wimpy "feelings" crowd is no surprise. Replace the iPad with a pair of pants and this could easily double as a Levi's commercial.

I don't think you understand how this works.

Ads like this create mystery, excitement, and ultimately pulls customers into Apple's retail chain out of pure interest.

I'd rather have ads like this than ads that shout specs in my face and exaggerate their knockoff plastic crap.

It seems like there is so many iPod ideas floating around. Full video iPod, wireless iPod, iPhone. Why not put it all into one machine. I mean it is Apple. They can do what they want.

I have said this same thing before. An iPhone in the vein of a Treo or Blackberry, utilizing some of the Newton tech, that is also a video iPod! Call it a DLA, (Digital Life Appliance).

Yes Amazon jump on the "it's generic" bandwagon.

Please lets just keep this thread about the response and not "But how is it generic. . ." "Apple didn't create App. . ." "Well Amazon is right it's generic. . ."

I don't think it's generic that's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. I'm moving on.

In general, "Applications" are what Apple run on their Mac OS platform "Apps" are what they run on their iOS platform, a cut down version of Mac OS X with a cut down but related and familiar name.

Other operating systems (mobile based included) refer to software as "Programs". This has gone back as far as the days of DOS and Atari/Amiga.

Apple have so much prior use of both the term Application to refer to software and App as the shortened term for iOS that Amazon are just picking a fight because Apple offer their own alternative to the Kindle and they don't like the competition.

We'll just see what happens. I bought the 160 not too long ago so i won't be upgrading but it's good to know it's still around. 4571 songs of uncompressed audio and counting. gotta love the classics.

Uncompressed. That IS the key. Friends don't let friends buy compressed faux music. And play your uncompressed music with your tube amps and AR 3a speakers. Howz that for classic?

I am more interested in knowing what good or purpose this is even been added for?

plus unencrypted is a major privacy concern ... just of the top of my mind, I can see where someone's house could be broken into by tracking the owners whereabouts.

As opposed to the much easier method of everyone in your neighbourhood noticing you're at work all day?

There are many people whose movements are best kept secret from certain others, with risk of life if revealed.

Battered women or kids in a secret shelter home, witness protection participants, undercover agents of all sorts, dissidents and rebels.

On a less serious note, there are probably some bosses who gave out iPhones, checking company iTunes hosts this weekned to see if their employees' travel receipts and sick days match their movements.

A HUGE stretch. There are other, easier ways of finding people. People in witness protection . . . carry items and live in areas that suit their situation. They are told what to do and not to do by the authorities. Personal phones are taken into account. Duh!

Undercover agents? LOL WTF is this, Russia House? I'm pretty sure they're "UNDERCOVER", meaning, tracking them would be useless, since there is nothing advertising their personal information. All anyone would get is random location data that could belong to anyone.

Dumbest examples ever. And you're a smart guy otherwise, so it's surprising.

Jobs receives a call during keynote and reaches into his pocket...
    ...audience errupts with joyful tears...
...pulls out iTunes compatible motorola phone....
    ...audience sighs....and cries....
...Steve gets another call 5 mintues later...
    ...pulls out iPhone
...geeks bumrush the stage and carry Steve off on their shoulders

Elaborate. They're rewriting Steve's keynote as we type to include your idea that would probably make one of the best keynotes ever! kudos!

I think we'll see iTV, iLife 07, iWork 07, update to FCP because it is time, Leopard, and a new "standard" config in MacPro to include the x1900 card for their mid-range model with the option to upgrade to the over-priced ATI.

In place of Leopard we may see the iphone. I doubt we'll see all three (tv, phone, os).

Actually, the analysts were pretty close this time, except for the profit margins. I'm thinking that the fact that the iPod is now using older parts (therefore cheaper parts) is pushing the cost down for Apple, and hence really making it a big cash cow and driving up the profit margin, even if they aren't selling quite as many as last quarter (which also has to do with seasonal decline).

Edit: oops... it appears as though the analysts definitely did blow the whole revenue expectation a bit. Missed that.

Actually, they were completely off base with their Mac estimates. Since it appears that most people on Wall St. think that Apple only makes iPods, this is no surprise.

Most estimates were for around 1 million Macs sold. Apple came in at 1.3 million. There's the margin difference right there.

The discussion in thinksecret is so fun at the moment, you can't even imagine how.
Basically everyone was talkin about it's video card, how it should be upgraded and things like that
But then these messages came into topic

I think the Mac mini has a future as long as they can get a better video output and a DVR.

    User2
It'd be great if they added a nuclear reactor.
