Could the deciding factor be the noise?
Not arguing about whether a Conroe would fit in the iMacIntel case - but wondering whether the extra heat would result in extra noise from the cooling fans.
The iMacIntel doesn't have to as fast as it possibly can, especially since the New Form-Factor Conroe Mini-Tower/Home-Theatre Mac® will be there for people who want a bit more power without the size and cost of the maxi-tower ProMacIntel.I know Maximum PC was playing around with the Core 2 Duo Extreme and, with an aftermarket heatsink + fan, were able to keep it at ~50 degrees C running at 100% U. on both cores. For fun, they unplugged the fan, made it recode an entire DVD to DivX and couldn't get it to a) go over 75 C, b) report a cut in processor speed, or c) shut off in protest.
So, with a well designed cooling system, i suspect they shouldn't have any problem fitting that in a iMac and keeping it quiet.

You know I am almost always critical of US military action, but in this case...
It might need to be taken.
We do have an obligation to stop atrocities if we are aware of them.
That said, this needs to be an international action, not like the "coalition of the willing" that went into Iraq. In fact, id prefer it if the US was NOT the main force by any stretch. We should give plenty of support, but we should be careful to not give the impression that we are taking the primary role in another conflict.

Maybe they are rare where you live. In the UK and the rest of Europe they are more common that automatics.

I see some new folks putting up some points, designed, DistortedLoop, and MAcProCPO is back at it again, thanks for the effort to those and other newbies!
I had a problem with the MacPro after I upgraded to a 3 SSD raid for booting ... I forgot to set the machine to NOT go to sleep, DUH! I could not figure out why it was timing out of folding every so often with the remote Linux boards that I'm ssh'd into from the Mac. NOW that I have that figured out my points will pick up again. It was still impressive just running the 6 GPU's and 2 win clients at about 50k per day!

One thing that's been frustrating me since DP1 is that when you minimize a window into its app icon it's sort of in limbo. Mission Control won't show it, nor does app expose (at least in some apps). Swipe-up on the dock icon (is this app-expose?) does sometimes, but it's mingled with recent files. Add that to the indicator lights being gone and I could have an open app with 20 minimized windows and totally forget about it.
It's not a huge deal, I suppose, but it makes the window management seem broken. I'd hate to go back to using the old-style minimize to the right side of the dock. I never liked that because it mixed those windows with stacks and got messy, plus it stretched and shrank my already-full dock.
Anyway, anyone else bugged by this? Am i missing something? Expose is the single most important thing to me in OS X; I rely on it to greatly speed my workflow. I like mission Control but this needs to be addressed. And, yes I filed a bug report for each DP release on this.

Supposedly the guy behind this new version is also the criminal that destroyed iMovie a few years back. God I hope FC8 isn't ANYTHING like iMovie. Old editors are too set in our ways to switch over to a iMovie/Sony Vegas style of editing. I need a preview window, and a Timeline Window. Just like when I edited on tape.

The classic is great. I got my iphone and was excited about having the ipod and phone combined. But I've gotten to the point where I miss the larger hard drive with more songs. I don't like having to decide which music I can squeeze onto the device. So I've started carrying the ipod around and using the phone for video and calls.
I don't think the classic will die, nor will conventional hard drives in laptops, until you can buy 500GB flash drives for $100. If the functionality of the hard drive suits your needs then you are simply paying more for less. If you are doing tasks that benefit from the access speed of a flash drive compared to a hard drive then of course that will outweigh the capacity issue.

Off Topic from Lybia. In some way I think WWII (or parts of it) has become a bit too mythological. Oh, and I am personally getting tired of hearing "The Greatest Generation" line getting used all the time by prominent figures in the country.

I don't really know what you mean by "mythological", but I guess you might be talking about how WWII is in a lot of movies and such. But I think that's just because of the timeline of TV/Video advancements to rapidly spread stories about psuedo-history.
If anything, the Cold War is more "mythological". Although not many ppl (of the belligerants themselves) actually fought and died, the existance of the Cold War gave rise to such advanced technology that has made the US "mythological". Rocketry, intercontinental filght, stealth, precision bombing, spacecraft, digital imaging, computers, the INTERNET.
Before WWII I don't think you can call the US a dominant world power. If anything the British were better...and especially the Royal Navy (although today is like a pale shadow of the US Navy) was the sheet...next to the Germans some may argue, of course. The US was just "protected" by geography and was an industrial revolution giant able to covert impregnable factories into war machines. Not that the highly capitalistic nature of US business moguls didn't help, naturally.
I mean, maybe the Nuclear Age was ushered by the US, but even that wasn't because of ppl who grew up in the US. It's more credited to ppl who like fled other parts of the world to be "safe" in the US. Wow, looks like the rumours WERE true after all! Apple killed the Pro of Final Cut Pro. That guy who turned the much admired iMovie into garbage has done it again. All they had to do was rewrite the engine with 64 bit support, had proper file handling, rendering titling tools amongst other necessary pro features and keep the same F*&$#@*&& interface as pro users of ANY pro software don't want to re-learn an interface for no reason! It takes YEARS before you really know a software under the hood.
We'll now see FCPx turn into a hit with amateurs and will be completely abandoned by pro users who will all return to avid.
You've been using the beta for months, right? Or are you a developer for Apple? Because if neither of these are true, you have seen either some poor quality cell phone video of a short demo of this program, or several poor quality still pictures of this product, along with hearing short introductions to key features. If the latter is true, I'm sorry, but I really don't believe you are justified in saying what you have. The companies who embrace change rather than fearing it remain relevant, and Apple is notoriously good at providing a quick learning curve on their products due to strong UI focus.

Knowing that Apple doesn't pay listed prices, it's not unreasonable to assume that Apple could get the Yonah chips for less than Merom ones.

...And I just got my new dual-tuner Tivo yesterday. :o
Anyway, I'm not betting that "iTV" will be a Tivo repalcement (yet), but more of a TV interface for your downloaded video content, and hopefully some streaming video websites. It'd be nice to browse through YouTube while sitting on the sofa, though the picture quality might be scary on my 32" set.

you can be certain that the price-difference is there. since merom and yonah are 1:1 compatible, why would anyone use yonah istead of merom? but since the two will be sold side-by-side, yonah obviously has some benefits that merom does not have. and that benefit is most likely price.

Apple has acknowledged the phone does have a unique issue (that is NOT just the same as the issue of covering up the antenna that most mobile devices have ... otherwise adding an extra bumper wouldn't fix it.).
No self-respecting consumer product review org would recommend a product with known flaws that the manufacturer refuses to adequately fix in the long term.

the tv has vga input on it so i just use that an the dvi to vga adapter to connect it to the mini. It's actually really good quality as it is right now. Happy with how it is, plus i don't feel like spending $50 on a single cable haha
You can get a HDMI cable on line for like $10. You should be able to get a DVI/HDMI adapter pretty cheap too. VGA is so yesterday.
