Lemme guess... CDMA 4.2.8 gets none of the performance benefits/bug fixes of 4.3.3?

Uh oh. Looks like I struck a nerve, right where it hurts (the ego), to a luxury car driver.
...Sorry to call you out on why exactly you pulled the trigger on your ill-advised purchase. I'm not coming on here saying I'm perfect. I have my flaws too. It's just that one of them isn't the overpowering desire to impress others with my material goods at all costs.

I don't know about anybody else, but showing off never entered MY mind when I bought my Macs. I just like a computer I don't have to reinstall the OS for twice a year. Of course, you are free to ASSUME whatever you like about my attitude or motives, I don't care. I'm happy with my purchase, and don't feel it's ill-advised at all.
Yeah, there may be Mac owners with the attitude you speak of; in fact, I'll bet anything there are more than just a few. But most of the Mac owners I know just like how they work, and often struggle to make the payments.
The point is that Macs, like many luxury cars, are better engineered than the cheap models are, and therefore, work better, with a smoother experience and better handling characteristics. That isn't a controversial statement in the automotive world - there, it's pretty much known that you get what you pay for.
Then again, even there, you get the dorks that just like to argue...

No, you can't play it via Media Access Control.
But you know what s/he meant, right? Yes, it's a much-anticipated second generation of a phenomenally popular game, released simultaneously on PC, Mac, XBox 360 and PS3.

This is great!!! This is why Apple is such a great company, They run their business as maruding pirates with soul.... anyhoooow.
Can someone check to see that at about 7 seconds into the preview of "Three Moons over Milford" that the lady isn't running with the new shuffle, that would be crazy, I'm thinking it's the FM transmitter but looks way to silver to be.
oh... pilot episode... can be seen by all on preview clip on itunes.

And I "should" be given a MacBook Pro for free for being a loyal customer. But it ain't gonna happen.
This isn't as hard to pull off as it looks.
Let's take the $399 Mac mini as an example. Starting with the current $599 model, we need to take it down $200. First, the Mac mini is now five months old. We know its overpriced, since the MacBook Pro has had TWO processor speed boosts during the time that the Mac mini has been availible. In addition, Yonah chips will be price-dropped dramatically when Merom is released. Other components have probably become cheaper too. Let's say that the cheaper components add up to a $150 price drop. Reasonable.
Now if we chop the HD to 4200 RPM and 40GB, remove Bluetooth, and use slower RAM, we could easily shave off another $50.
Laugh at this configuration all you like, but I'm much more likely to buy a $399 computer to use as a streaming media box on top of my TV than a $599 one.
It also works great for the average family. Us on MR tend to expect more from our computers. This $399 Mac mini configuration would be perfectly capable of holding large-sized iTunes and iPhoto libraries, maybe some light video editing here and there, making music with GarageBand, publishing a blog with iWeb, video conferencing, browsing the internet, etc.
And with the next revision, it could easily be improved upon.

Okay, so when do people want to meet up? Do we want to do a drinks and dinner outing, or just drinks, or something even less formal?
I'm up for something any evening except possibly Wednesday. I can probably make it then in a pinch, but I'd have to cancel another commitment.
Location? Meet up at Moscone and move on from there? Meet at a restaurant? There are a number of restaurants within just a block or two...there's the Metreon's upscale food court, Thirsty Bear (tapas and good microbrews), Buca di Beppo (family-style Italian), Chevy's (Mexican, er, American chain restaurant Mexican, but I like it just fine)...I'm sure there are some other options that I'm missing off the top of my head, so feel free to suggest others. Things will obviously be busy in the area due to MW, so we may to have to plan ahead with reservations of some sort if we're going to dinner...ballpark numbers probably okay, but we'll need something.
What's good for you folks?

are your finder window's translucent? How did you do that?
It actually is a terminal window. (The application in Applications/Utlities)
I only wish I could make my finder windows transparent...

A lot of you are a bunch of cheap asses. Most of you don't understand the amount of work that goes into producing these apps. They're not just PDFs that you download and flip through. You get both an interactive version and print version of the the magazine. The reason print subscriptions are so cheap is because they don't really care about print sales. You're paying them to give your information to them so they can use it for marketing purposes. Thus another reason the ipad/iphone version are more expensive is because Apple won't allow them to collect your information. Conde is currently working on a subscription model, but it also how they are going to be able to negotiate with Apple.
I like how everbody blames everything but the ipad. The ipad just makes for a crappy ebook with it's bright display and weight.
Amazing how everyone else trying to make money is "greedy" but when Apple charges a perceived premium the knee jerk response is "dont buy it troll".
Content doesnt just appear out of thin air. Creatives deserve to earn too.

I just noticed that if you open the stream in your browser and slect the drop down menu, there's a pro option (which I don't have) to "Save as quicktime movie". Does that work for anyone with pro, or will it just save a link to the stream on your computer?
The latter in this case unfortunately.
QuickTime Pro usually gives you the option to download video content of the web, but these keynote streams are made in such a way that you can't save the entire movie. You download a part of it (cache), then you play that part, and after playing it, the cache gets deleted. And then the next part, and the next.... and so on.
To download the enitre movie stream, you need somekind of app that let's you save the cache.
I don't know why Apple doesn't podcast it, or make it downloadable..... but they are really doing their best to prevent it being downloaded.
IIRC not one Steve-note was made available by Apple. There are "alternative sources" to get them, but nothing legal....

Based on murmurings and mooings on the pro sites, I reckon Apple will lose some customers to Avid, if they had originally come from Avid some time in the last 10 years. They're talking about going back to Avid, not to Avid.
I also reckon every kid who has used iMovie in the last few years will start using FCP X in about July. This is the next generation of video editors, and they will far outnumber Avid users. They will be making movies for web distribution. They will be flooding the film schools. They will also have the mad skillz (look at me, sounding like a teenager :D) to turn things over really quickly, something which is appreciated in today's editing environment.
Apple has built FCP X for people who have never used film and probably never will so the metaphor needed to go. Bye-bye bins, hello "smart folders". And a big hello to the do-deca-core, 8TB, 32GB Mac Pro everyone can now justify purchasing.
i second this as well.
as a side note, most of the editors i know don't think twice about switching back and forth btn fcp and avid based on the project /client requirements regardless of their particular preference.
ultimately the result of apples move will only come to light after the software is released and peeps get their hand on it. everything now is just looking at screenshots.

Speaking of tablets, Amazon.com now has the Kindle for $25 less if you opt for the sponsored screen savers. Basically ads appear in the screen saver and you get the kindle for $25 less. It is noted on Amazon's homepage.
Who really thought another iPad would come out this year...i mean honestly?
LOL
I know. I doubt anyone believed this. It was the most ridiculous "rumor" out there.
How about a mini iPad in the 7 inch range coming this year?
That's a gimmick for the so called competition.

here's hoping they have fixed the light leakage issue plaguing the iPads that have shipped thus far otherwise they may as well push shipping Estimates out 6 months because these things are defective
I love it when Google/Samsung/Sony/Motorola employees create new MacRumors accounts (join date Mar 2011) just to try to propagate garbage like this. Obviously trying to start a new antennagate. If you can't beat them in sales, try to start some bogus stories in the blogs and hope the media picks up on it.
THIS JUST IN: My iPad 2 is absolutely fine and its in my hands right now. Anybody else who really has one complaining?

I can't imagine what the new would be (assuming there is one) if there wasnt then there would be huge improvements to the already existing one.

I'm wondering why they changed the sensor area. Looks more like the area that's on the black iPhone 4. I've never had any issues with the sensor area with any of the several white iPhone 4 front panels that I've received.

yes.
you guys keep in mind that ONLY FCP is 299. I think Final Cut Pro STUDIO will be around 500-600 Dollar. Still a "Pro-User" pricing so to speak. So most Pro's will go for the suite anyway. I think it's great that Apple is selling the programm itself for this price. It keeps Final Cut Pro alive and I hope that it will be updated more frequently because hopefully more people will use it.
So, are the days of "buy the full version/suit once - get a upgrade for 1/3 of the price with your license" over?? You have to buy the bits and pieces of the FC Suit seperately from release to release - although a bit cheaper - but far from the good deal the upgrades used to be...??
