Exactly - enlighten us. How do you know why its marketshare has increased as of late? Neither me nor freeny claim that its SOLELY because of the ads - but how can you prove that the ads haven't convinced 1 single switcher...?
I'm not claiming to say that these ads have hurt or helped boost the market shares...I'm only saying that I have only heard negative things about them.
I feel embarrassed watching them.
I personally believe that the market share has risen because of the intel switch. The ads happened to come out at the same time so it's impossible to know how they've affected the market share, but either way I really don't like them. It's not the actors either... definitely the elitist script.
I like that Shaun White ad where he narrates what he does with his computer and this stunt guy (you can only see his torso) is reaching and grabbing at nothing that was edited later to appear as if what he was grabbing at were his folders/documents/songs/etc... Pretty clever. And no snobbishness (yeah that word rocks) either.
Did I mention I like Ellen Feiss?

You are wrong.
Proven by Apples rising market share.;)
Nonsense. Apple is selling a lot of computers right now because Jobs Osbourned the entire PowerPC range just over a year ago by announcing the switch to Intel. For each model of Mac, sales were artificially low before the Intel version was launched, and artificially higher after.
Additionally, people are happer buying Macs if they know they can switch back to Windows if it doesn't work out. One of the major barriers to owning a Mac has been removed by the Intel switch (whatever my misgivings on the subject.)
It's simply ridiculous to argue that the ads have helped sales. Sales would be much higher now than they would have been six months ago even if Apple had stopped advertising completely. The question is whether they would be even higher if they weren't insulting their target audience. The answer, of course, is yes.

Does anybody know what happened to nadyne the Microsoft rep that used to hang around MacRumors and had good tips on how to solve certain issues with Office?
I urgently need to get the template support in PowerPoint working correctly...
It seems that her last post to the forum happened in October 2010...
She probably left this place. Why would anyone want to do business here when all people do is trash Microsoft.

"Ahead" in what terms? Sure, public transport is used considerably more in Europe than in the US. Reason? Gas prices (oh yes, and the fact that you can't get a parking space in the big cities just makes it more convenient).
But is the actual infrastructure worse? From a european point of view, that is hard to believe.
Check out this link for a comparison of transportation prices EU vs. US: http://ecohearth.com/eco-blogs/eco-international/1148-public-transportation-thrives-in-europe-and-asiawhy-not-in-the-usa.html
What I am talking about is in the majority parts of the USA. New York, LA, Chicago, Boston, Miami, etc etc all have a public transportation infrastructure. Where I live, in what is considered "rural" USA the only form of public transportation is a taxi. There are no city buses, no rail system, nothing. If I need to go somewhere I have to drive there.
I live in Missouri, which is 69,704 sq mi. England is 50,346 sq mi. So when you travel from one end to the other (North to South, or East to West) of England you have gone from one end of your country to the other in 3-6 hours. Here, If I left now and traveled for 3-6 hours I would leave my state but I would be no where close to the edge of my country.
We are so spread out as a country and because of that our public transportation, unless you live in a city with 500,000+ people, is crap compared to European countries. You can travel anywhere in the City of Paris or London for one flat fee with the subway system. When I was in England staying in Belper, it cost a couple of pounds to travel by train to Derby. If I was to pay a taxi to take me to St. Louis, or Kansas City, damn....probably cost me $2-300.
I wish the USA would build a high speed rail system and have a station here where I live. They built a highway system, why not a rail system?

Sounds a bit redundent given my Samsung TV, Sony Bluray, Humax PVR, XBox 360, Windows PC and my macs (with Twonky installed) already all play nicely together without needing a new standard.

I live a minute away from Stonebriar but I seriously dislike that mall. I'll be at Willow Bend around 4:30!
I really dislike ALL malls, but Friday I will have to suck it up. It will be a game time decision between WB and SB.

The biggest reason why Android will not overtake the iPhone in app sales is that the iPhone is consistent in its OS revisions.
Are we not forgetting that the market for apps is going to start to fragment come OS4? With 1st gen iPhone and iPod touch owners stuck without an update and iPad owners stuck on 3.2 until "Fall", development for iPhone may start to become a pain soon if you want to maximise customer base. I'm not sure how backwards compatible an app developed for the iPhone and OS4 would be when running on the iPad if it uses API's not available on 3.2.
Then we have the potential of 3 different OS4 capable phones which may vary in features come the next gen iPhone. 3G can't multitask and will undoubtedly mis some OS4 features, the 3GS will do everything Apple has shown so far and I expect the next iPhone to have some more features over the last two.
Android's open-ness which is a strength is also its biggest weakness. As a developer its a small nightmare to test and develop for it because of so many unknowns.
Are we talking software or hardware wise here?
It must be a pain in the arse developing for Android and working out things like, does it have a trackball or D-pad, what processor & how much RAM the device has, what size screen does it have, which OS revision is it using....
So far as unified hardware goes, the iPhone has been king so far, I agree. :)
Have you got any Android projects currently in development?

Go to system preferences. Open International. Drag British English to be first in the list of languages. If it's not in the list, click the Edit button to add it.
Good stuff. :)
I never thought it would be a system-level setting...

The finder is being rewritten. This was posted and discussed several places (i think on thinksecret offsite forums. I haven't installed leopard, and I can't comment on it anyway because of NDA, but from stuff on the web, the finder has been rewritten from scratch and it appears that brushed metal is just temporary.
I agree Finder is slower than a snail. Many Mac fans live in denial about the s-l--o--w f----i-----n-------d--------e----r but it is a joke compared to XP. I love OS X and it would be easy to impress others with it's elegance if it weren't for the S-L--O---W F----I-----N------D-------E--------R.
Great! The pop-up menu on my documents folder in the dock just opened. Bye Bye.

A 50 mm lens has the same focal length as any other 50 mm lens. There is no such thing as a "crop camera". There are differences in film sizes, onto which the lens projects an image. An APS-C recording sensor that is listed as 1.6X will cause the projected 35-mm image to have a smaller field-of-view. The other attributes of the lens, including the depth-of-field and focal length, remain unaltered by the size of the recording sensor.
A Canon 10-22 EF-S lens is only compatible with specific Canon APS-C cameras. This is because of the Short Back Focus attribute of the EF-S lenses. A Sigma DC lens, which does not use Short Back Focus, is intended only for use on APS-C cameras with 1.5X or smaller recording sensors. The Sigma 10-20 lens, like Canon EF-S lenses, projects a smaller image circle than the 35-mm standard. This is why these "digital" lenses aren't compatible with normal 35-mm cameras. Financial cost and weight were the considerations when developing EF-S, Sigma DC, and similar lenses for APS-C cameras. You do have another ultra-wide option if you don't want to use the smaller APS-C lenses. You can buy the Sigma 12-24 (http://www.sigmaphoto.com/shop/12-24mm-f45-56-ex-dg-asp-hsm-sigma) lens.

This is a real surprising trend for Apple products, I cannot recall such deep discounts on the "old" model of anything in the past. I have an iPad1 and was planning to sell it and get an iPad2. But the "value" of both just when south by 40% to 50%.
What I mean is - I can't be the only one thinking if I wait until the iPad3 comes along I'll be able to grab an iPad2 for 40% off.
I have to wonder what Apple is planning to prevent this from happening next year?

I hope they use the USB flash drive option (like they do with the MacBook Air); then enable some way where we can update the OS install on the flash drive with newer 10.7.x releases, so down the road when we reinstall our machines we don't need to go through the process of having to redownload every update since our install version.
Plus the USB drive option would work well with folks have don't have an optical drive in their machines.
And I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for the USB drive option.

Just asking the experts ...
Is it possible Apple could release the final version with the option to initialize a drive with ZFS prior to install? Everything I have read about ZFS seems to point to it as a next logical step for Apple's OS.
I'd guess about 40% chance of that (which is actually pretty good; the odds that they'll release a final version with the option to initialize a drive with NTFS are around 0%). I'd like to see it - I have seen the future, and it's ZFS.

And hopefully Fiore will do a cartoon about it :p ... well maybe not, his app could be banned again
Yea unless he's awarded another Pulitzer that is...
Apple is really disgusting me with this $#*(%&*( behavior. They really need to completely reevaluate their criteria and make it CRYSTAL EFFING CLEAR what IS and was IS NOT acceptable and then stand by it. None of this 'reject Google Voice because it duplicates functionality' and then 'approve the Opera web browser'. Reject an APP because it 'ridicules public figures' and then plead that the author to resubmit it once he's awarded a Pulitzer...
This wishy washy crap is really showing everyone just how UNDERHANDED they treat the whole process.
